The 5 Types Of Deck Users

As we enter spring and more and more people across the country are watching the snow thaw and spending more time on their decks, we thought weā€™d have a little fun with todayā€™s blog. Below, youā€™ll find a list weā€™ve compiled of the five most common type of deck users.

The Five Types Of Deck Users

The Griller

This deck user loves firing up the grill on their deck. Whether itā€™s a wood barbecue pit, a charcoal grill, or a gas grill, you can count on this person to know their way around burgers, brats, and skewers. They likely keep a set of grilling tools outside and at the ready, as well as a constant stockpile of propane, charcoal, or wood. This is the type of deck user who loves to grill in solitude and then serve up a delicious meal to the family.

The Sunbather

This person loves using their deck to catch some rays. Instead of upright patio chairs, they have fully reclining lounge chairs where they can lay back, put on a podcast, and get a nice tan. While this type of deck user often lounges in their bathing suit, they might enjoy the benefit of some privacy deck railing so peering neighbors wonā€™t bother them.

The Socialite

If you use your deck primarily as a socializing area, you are likely a socialite deck user. Every time you have company over, you ensure your deck is spotlessly clean. You likely have a fridge that you keep stocked with drinks on or near your deck for easy access, and you love talking the night away on your deck with your friends. You likely utilize deck lighting to ensure that the party continues long after the sun goes down.

The Al Fresco Diner

This type of deck user loves eating out on the deck whenever possible. You have a big table with plenty of chairs for everyone and an umbrella so you can even dine outside when the sun is blazing. Whether you are sitting down on your deck for coffee and eggs in the morning or enjoying dinner with the family, the al fresco diner deck user ensures they get out on the deck as much as possible when thereā€™s food involved.

The Nature Watcher

Nature watching deck users love to sit quietly on their deck and observe the surroundings. These decks usually back up to a wooded area, a large meadow, or even a lake or ocean. You can spend hours outside with a pair of binoculars waiting for a unique bird, insect, or critter to come by. You likely have your deck or backyard adorned with bird feeders and plenty of plants that attract wildlife. The nature watcher would probably benefit from glass balusters that wonā€™t obstruct any of the view.

What Type Of Deck User Are You?

Do you relate to any of the titles above? At Deck Expressions, we value all types of deck users and deck builders, whether youā€™re someone who uses your deck to grill up some burgers or youā€™re a contractor building decks for homeowners. If you are wanting to get more use out of your deck, make sure that your deck is providing everything you need to do that. For example, if you and your guests never hang out on your deck past sundown, maybe you need some deck lighting to make the environment more welcoming. If youā€™d love to hit the deck to get a nice tan but feel uncomfortable doing so, just put up some deck privacy railing and youā€™re good to go.
