Handrail Straight Joiner for RDI Vinyl or Aluminum Secondary Handrail System
What It Is
This straight joiner is a connector piece used in RDI’s secondary handrail systems (ADA-compliant handrails) to join two sections of handrail in a straight line. It is designed specifically to work with aluminum or vinyl–clad handrail sections and ensures a solid, aligned connection between them.
Purpose & Function
- Joins two handrail lengths: The joiner fits inside the open ends of two handrail pieces, bridging them so they become one continuous run.
- Keeps rails aligned: Provides a metal-to-metal connection, not just an adhesive or cosmetic piece — this helps maintain strength and straight alignment.
- Invisible/clean joint: Often used where the rail doesn’t need to change direction — just extend the line — so the visual appearance stays clean.
Where It Fits
This joiner is a part of the RDI Secondary Handrail System — used as a secondary/ADA handrail mounted alongside a primary railing or stair system. The system includes rails, brackets, joiners (straight and adjustable), end-caps, and other accessories for a completed installation.
Typical Use Cases
- Extending a straight run of ADA hand railing on a ramp, porch, stair or deck wall.
- Connecting two cut pieces of aluminum or vinyl-clad rail without welding or complex fabrication.
- Helping meet graspability requirements for secondary railings specified by ADA-type guides or local code. (RDI markets the system that way.)
