What an Astragal Kit Is
A French door astragal kit is a center molding and hardware assembly used on double door installations (particularly 80 in tall French/screen doors) that:
✔ Bridges the gap between two doors
✔ Lets you open both doors without a fixed center post
✔ Provides a place to secure the “inactive” door with flush bolts
✔ Helps reduce drafts, dust, insects, and improve security
✔ Is designed to work with screen or storm doors in French-door setups

How the Freestyle / Madden Astragal Kit Works
- Center Gap Solution – The astragal runs vertically between the two doors and fills the space where the jamb would be. This means no permanent center post blocking your opening — great for moving furniture or maximizing flow to patios.
- Flush Bolts – Built-in flush bolts at the top and bottom allow you to lock the inactive (secondary) door in place for security and weather sealing. They slide into receptacles in the header and threshold.
- Rust-Free Components – Designed for exterior use with rust-resistant hardware, so it holds up outdoor exposure long-term.
- Compatible with 80 in Doors – This specifically fits standard 80 in tall French door assemblies (often used with matching double screen doors) and is paint-matched to the door style.
