Low Voltage Wiring
What it is:
- It’s a low-voltage wiring solution specifically offered for outdoor deck/lighting systems by Aurora Deck Lighting. For example, the “Heavy Duty 12-2 Low Voltage Wire” is “rated for burial and used for perimeter wiring.”
- It is designed to connect multiple low-voltage fixtures (LED deck lights, step lights, post lights, etc.) to a transformer/power supply and form the “main line” of the lighting circuit.
- Aurora’s FAQ and wiring resources indicate they recommend specific gauges and wiring practices for their low-voltage lighting systems.
Key Specifications & Features:
-
Gauge / Size: Aurora recommends 12-gauge wire for its “AC/low voltage” deck lighting systems because 12 gauge offers lower resistance and allows longer runs.
- Voltage: This wire is designed for low-voltage systems (12 V) typical of many deck and outdoor accent lighting systems from Aurora.
- Intended Use: Rated for burial (i.e., can be run underground or in mulch/soil) and for “perimeter wiring” of a lighting circuit.
- Connector Accessories: Aurora also offers “pigtails” and quick-connect wiring harnesses (e.g., 12" / 60" / 90" lengths) to attach individual fixtures to the main line.
- Installation Instructions: Aurora provides wiring installation instructions for low-voltage wiring on their site.
