The Collated Cortex and Fasteners for TimberTech Composite Decking is a concealed face-fastening system designed to give TimberTech composite decking a clean, nearly fastener-free appearance. It is especially useful on perimeter boards, stairs, first and last boards, and other areas where traditional hidden clips aren't practical.
The system uses a specially designed Cortex screw to securely fasten the deck board to the framing. After the screw is set to the proper depth, a color- and grain-matched TimberTech plug is inserted over the screw head. The plugs are made from actual TimberTech composite decking material, allowing them to blend into the finished deck surface.
A major advantage of the collated version is convenience. Instead of handling individual plugs, the plugs come organized on strips with their grain pre-aligned. This can make installation faster and easier, particularly on larger projects.

Is predrilling required when installing TimberTech Composite decking?
Predrilling is required when installing Cortex with any uncapped or capped composite deck board. It is recommended to use a 6 mm drill bit to pilot a hole halfway through the deck board but not into the framing.
Can TimberTech Cortex fasteners be used for all decking?
TimberTech Cortex fasteners can be used on all full-profile TimberTech deck boards, and for Terrain+ Collection scalloped-profile boards. TimberTech Cortex fasteners can NOT be used for other scalloped-profile boards including Terrain, Prime+ and Prime collections.
Can I use Cortex fasteners with steel or aluminum framing?
Cortex for Composite is not compatible with metal framing.
