What a Drink Rail Adapter Is
A drink rail adapter (sometimes called a deck board adapter or cocktail rail adapter) is an accessory that lets you add a flat board surface on top of your railing system so you can:
- Rest drinks, plates, snacks, small planters, mobile devices, etc.
- Give your railing a more usable “cocktail rail” surface — a wider flat top that’s comfortable to lean on.
- Integrate your deck boards (wood/composite) into the railing for a cohesive look.
For Barrette Outdoor Living railing lines (like Elevation), these adapters are designed to bolt or clip to the top rail so a deck board or other flat surface sits securely above the standard railing profile.
How It Works

The adapter hardware fastens directly to the top rail of your Elevation system. -
Deck Board Sits On Top
A standard deck board (e.g., 1×4, 1×6, or composite decking) sits on top of the adapter; you screw up from below into the board to secure it. -
Creates a Flat Top Surface
This turns your rail into a drink rail or cocktail rail — a broader, flat surface that’s easier to use for food or beverage.
