What the Smart Bit Pro Plug Tool Is
The Smart Bit Pro Plug Tool is a specialized driver accessory made to work with Pro Plug® systems on wood decking (often pressure-treated or other solid wood boards). It’s designed to help you drive Pro Plug screws to the correct depth every time so that the screw heads stay just below the surface — ready for a matching wood plug to conceal them.

Auto-Stop Depth Control

Compatible with Cordless Drivers
- You use it just like a regular driver bit but its design helps keep installation consistent and professional looking. It’s usually a hex or STAR drive that fits most drill/drivers.
How It Works (Simple Steps)
- Pre-drill (optional): With some hardwoods or under cold conditions, a pilot hole is recommended.
- Insert Smart Bit: Place the Smart Bit in your drill/driver.
- Drive the Fastener: The bit will drive the Pro Plug screw into the deck board and stop at the right depth so the head sits just below the surface.
- Plug It: Insert a wood plug into the hole and tap flush. Now your deck board has no visible screw heads.

- The PRO PLUG Tool creates a screw hole and countersink portion that is perfectly matched to the PRO PLUG Fasteners. All aspects of the screw were considered in engineering the hole: shank diameter, overall length, countersink angle, head height and head diameter.
- The tool also creates a counterbore portion that is perfectly matched to the PRO PLUG Plug.

Free Spinning Stop Collar with O-ring
The stop collar spins free of the drill and counterbore assembly, and is fitted with a rubber o-ring that prevents damage to the board surface. The hole is complete when the stop collar stops spinning.
Counterbore
The case hardened counterbore portion of the tool is designed to perfectly match the geometry of the System's specially designed fasteners and plugs.
Drill Bit
Drill bits feature Powerbolic fluting, which cuts through decking and flooring more than twice as fast as standard wood bits, even dense hardwoods. The Tool also comes packaged with a spare stub bit, designed for plug-only installations (with no fasteners).
