What They Are
TOPLoc Epoxy Coated Screws are face-fastening screws specifically engineered for TimberTech decking boards (like PRO, EDGE, and other composite/PVC planks) where top-down fastening is used — for example on starter boards, perimeter boards, stairs, and where hidden clips aren’t suitable. They are:
- Epoxy coated carbon steel — the coating helps protect against corrosion in outdoor environments while fastening dense composite boards.
- Color-matched to TimberTech finishes — available in colors like Gray, Teak, Sand, Ivory, Walnut, Dark Gray, and Light Gray to minimize visible fastener appearance.
- Typically around #8 x 2-1/2″ and use a T20 star drive for good engagement in dense decking material.
- Covered by TimberTech’s 25-year limited residential warranty against corrosion.
How They’re Used
- Face fastening: These screws are used on the board face rather than hidden clip systems, making them ideal for boards where concealed fasteners aren’t compatible (e.g., first/last boards, stairs, picture frames).
- Color-matched appearance: The epoxy coating and matching colors help the visible screws blend with the decking surface and maintain a cleaner visual finish.
- Installation: Designed to be driven with an 18 V drill/driver and T20 bit; pre-drilling may be recommended within 1½″ of board ends or in cold conditions to prevent splitting.
