The Azek Island Post Cap by Nantucket is a flat‑top post cap designed to slip over the top of square deck, porch, fence, or structural posts to provide a finished look and protect the wood beneath from weather and moisture. Unlike traditional wood post caps, this version is made from composite AZEK‑style material that mimics the look of painted wood but has much higher durability.

- AZEK‑Type Composite Material: Made from a PVC/solid polymer material that looks and feels like painted wood. It’s impervious to insects and moisture and resists rot, splitting, twisting, and warping, which are common problems with natural wood in outdoor conditions.
- Paintable Surface: This material accepts paint easily, so you can paint it a custom color to match your railing, trim, or deck color scheme. Proper painting also protects the cap from mold, mildew, and UV damage over the long term.
- Maintenance‑Free Once Painted: After painting, the cap becomes essentially maintenance‑free, meaning you don’t have to re‑seal or stain it yearly like wood.

Installation
- Slip‑On Fit: The cap slides over the post top and sits flush. Most installers also use a small amount of exterior adhesive or light fasteners to secure it and prevent shifting.
- Ready for Finish: Before installation, paint the cap (especially if you want a custom color or extra surface protection) so it’s ready to go once mounted.

The following is recommended:
- AZEK doesn’t have a finish and that leaves the material subject to dirt, smudges, mold and mildew.
- Properly prepared and painted with even brush strokes gives the appearance of finely painted wood.
- A properly painted finish will last for years protecting the substrate from mold, mildew and the UV rays from the sun. AZEK surfaces must be clean, dry and void of any foreign material such as dirt, oil, grease or other contaminates that may come from normal handling, storage and/or installation prior to painting. Use a 100% acrylic latex paint with colors having a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of 55 or higher.
