What It Is
The Cedar Quaise Finial is a wood finial (decorative post accent) made by Nantucket Post Cap from quality laminated clear Western Red Cedar. These are meant to be installed on top of a flat post cap or directly on a wood post to add an architectural, refined detail that draws the eye and enhances your outdoor build.
Finials like this aren’t structural — they’re purely decorative accents that give a finished and more elegant look to posts that might otherwise have a simple flat top.
Material & Finish

Installation
- Pre-drilled & Lag Screw Ready: Cedar Quaise Finials are pre-drilled and include a lag screw for easy installation — the finial is simply threaded into the top of your post or cap after sealing.
- Seal First: To avoid wood movement (cracking, splitting) and to protect against weather, apply paint, stain, or clear preservative to all surfaces before installing.
- Optional Caulk: A bead of exterior caulk around the base can help keep moisture from getting under the finial where it meets the post.
Preparation:
- All Nantucket Quaise Finials are constructed of quality laminated clear Western Red Cedar.
- They should be sealed BEFORE installation with an oil base primer, paint, stain or preservative to ensure long life.
- These should be applied to all surfaces INCLUDING the base.
Installation:
- Nantucket Quaise Finials are pre-drilled and shipped with lag screws for easy installation after sealing.
- The screws should be inserted first into the base of the finial using a pair of pliers around the smooth section (not the threads).
- Then thread the finial with mounted lag screws into the post. Pre-drilling the top of the post is optional and may aid in the installation.
- Exterior caulking material can be applied to the base to ensure a tight fit if desired.
