EEL Point Cedar Finial by Nantucket
What It Is
The Cedar EEL Point Finial is a decorative finial (ornamental topper) made to mount on the top of a wood post — such as a deck post, fence post, mailbox post, or porch post — to give it a finished, pointed silhouette instead of a simple flat top. It’s part of Nantucket’s finial lineup of architectural post accessories.
Construction & Material
- Made from laminated clear Western Red Cedar, a popular outdoor wood known for its natural resistance to decay, insects, and moisture when properly sealed.
- Cedar gives the finial a rich wood grain and warm appearance, making it suitable for traditional, rustic, or craftsman-style outdoor projects.
Style & Design
- EEL Point Shape: The “eel point” design refers to a tapered or pointed finial profile — taller than a standard ball finial, with a more dramatic, elegant point that draws the eye upward on a post.
- It provides a decorative flourish that enhances the visual impact of posts on decks, railings, fences, pergolas, and other outdoor structures.
Installation
- Pre-drilled with included lag screws: The finial arrives ready for installation — the lag screws are set in place and you simply thread the finial into the top of the post.
- Seal before installing: Because cedar can weather and crack over time, your finial should be sealed, stained, painted, or treated with preservative on all surfaces (including the base) before installation to maximize durability.
- Optional caulk: You can apply exterior caulk around the base for a snug, moisture-resistant fit.
Preparation:
- All Nantucket EEL Finials are constructed of quality laminated clear Western Red Cedar.
- They should be sealed BEFORE installation with an oil base primer, paint, stain or preservative to ensure long life.
- These should be applied to all surfaces INCLUDING the base.
