What They Are

Glass balusters for the RDI Avalon Aluminum Railing system are tempered glass infill panels that replace standard vertical balusters to give your railing a near-unobstructed view and a sleek, modern aesthetic. They’re designed specifically to fit Avalon‘s aluminum beam/rail channels and work within the system’s modular components.

Avalon supports multiple infill styles including traditional balusters, cable, glass slats/balusters, and decorative panels — and glass options deliver a clean visual look with minimal sightline interruption.

Key Features

Tempered Safety Glass

Constructed from fully tempered glass to meet standard safety requirements for guardrail infill (built to relevant safety glass standards).
Typical thickness is around 0.225–0.25″ (around 5/16″) — strong enough to function as a guardrail infill.

Sold in sets sized for Avalon panel widths:
• Box of 9 for 6′ rail sections
• Box of 12 for 8′ rail sections
Designed to be used with Avalon railing heights of 36″ (residential) or 42″ (commercial) depending on code and application.

Installation

Glass balusters slide into the top and bottom rail channels of the Avalon system.
No individual connectors between glass pieces are typically required — the rails and locking system hold them securely.
A top rail cap is required to finish the installation (sold separately).

Baluster Spacing

Spacing between glass balusters is designed to meet code requirements while providing maximum visibility.
(For example, usable spacing is approximately 3.38″ between elements.)

2407.1 Materials.

(Glass used as a handrail assembly or a guard section shall be constructed of either single fully tempered glass, laminated fully tempered glass or laminated heat-strengthened glass. Glazing in railing in-fill panels shall be of an approved safety glazing material that conforms to the provisions of Section 2406.1.1. For all glazing types, the minimum nominal thickness shall be ¹/₄ inch (6.4 mm). Fully tempered glass and laminated glass shall comply with Category II of CPSC 16 CFR Part 1201 or Class A of ANSI Z97.1.)
