What the Stowaway Fastener Is
The Stowaway Fastener by Deckorators is a hidden deck board fastening system designed for use with Deckorators grooved deck boards. It helps you secure the decking to the joists without visible screws on the finished surface, creating a cleaner, more polished deck look.

How It Works
Hidden Fastener Design:
- The Stowaway system uses small nylon clip-style fasteners that fit into the grooved edges of compatible Deckorators deck boards. A stainless-steel, square-drive screw is preloaded on each fastener, so you drive the screw down into the joist at a 90° angle while the clip engages the groove.
Board Spacing & Appearance:
- As you install boards, the clips automatically create about a 1/4″ spacing between them for thermal expansion and proper drainage — no separate spacers needed. The deck surface ends up with no visible screw heads between boards, only on the edges where traditional fastening is required.
Quick, Easy Installation:
- Because the screw comes preloaded on the clip, you don’t have to pick up a separate screw and fastener — which saves time and reduces dropped hardware on the job.
Typical Uses
- Grooved Composite & PVC Deck Boards: Works with Deckorators boards that have pre-cut grooves on the edges.
- Main Field Decking: Ideal for most of the deck surface where you want a flush, fastener-free look.
- Standard Joist Spacing: Designed to work on common joist spacings like 12″ or 16″ on center, with coverage estimates on larger packs.
