Drill Guide for drilling (.900 - 23mm) holes for 7/8" Round Balusters by Dekor
What It Is
The Dekor Drill Guide for Round Baluster is a simple drilling jig designed to help you drill perfectly placed holes for installing round balusters (typically 7/8″ diameter) into wood rails when building deck or porch railings. It ensures even spacing and alignment when installing balusters.
How It Works
- You place the jig over the end of a piece of dimensional lumber (like a 2×4 rail).
- Drill your first hole for a baluster.
- Then insert the jig into that hole and use the offset drill bushing on the jig to mark or drill the next hole.
- This technique automatically spaces holes correctly (about 4-5/8″ on center), which complies with typical deck code spacing standards.
- The jig can be bent slightly if your board is thinner or thicker than a standard 2×.
Why It’s Useful
- Consistent spacing – Helps ensure each baluster hole is drilled equally spaced without having to measure each one manually.
- Balanced installs – Makes deck or railing work faster and neater.
- Works with Forstner bit – Often paired with a 0.900″ Forstner drill bit (sold separately) to make the clean holes needed for drill-in end caps on balusters.
About this product...
The drill jig is designed to fit over dimensional lumber (2x) on end. Simply drill your first hole put the male bushing into the hole that you just drilled and use the opposite end drill bushing to drill your next hole. Using the jig will give you 4-5/8" on center for baluster installation and meets code for spacing. If your material is thinner than 2x or larger just bend the side ears in until you have a nice fit on the material your drilling. Great alternative when using baluster connectors is NOT an option or installing Dekor lighting.
